Axonal Death – Apparent Fiber Density (AFD)
Axonal death is a critical feature of many neurodegenerative disorders. Imeka can characterize the integrity of white matter tissue using AFD metrics to measure axonal death along specific white matter bundles, in the presence or not of white matter lesions.
With our white matter imaging technology, a combination of measures can be used to quantify the loss of myelin.
DTI vs HARDI
Imeka is your best ally when it comes to getting the most out of the science of diffusion imaging. Our fiber tractography technique, based on HARDI (high angular resolution diffusion imaging) instead of DTI (diffusion tensor imaging), makes a huge difference in the regions you can target by making tractography robust to crossing fibres and able to reconstruct a larger extent of white matter bundles than DTI.
Using Imeka’s models, HARDI techniques can be employed on clinical data. No need for a HCP (Human Connectome Project) like acquisition protocol, 30+ directions dMRI acquisition is usable.

Tractography and Virtual Bundle Dissection
Using advanced diffusion MRI, Imeka’s tools generate brain connectivity results that better recover the whole range of white matter structures.
In most disease areas, analysis can be improved by using more statistics (voxel-based, bundle-based, track-profile-based), on specific WM fiber bundles. Manual segmentation is cumbersome and error-prone. Imeka’s unique technology automatically and robustly extracts 35+ of the main WM fiber bundles.
Extracted bundles connect specific regions of the brain, enabling a more precise microstructure analysis along those bundles. This is extremely valuable for drug development and the assessment of the effects of a compound.
